Be Prepared
Please be sure that you have all of the important information necessary to provide the proper care:

  • Temperature: know the exact temperature
    - A child who "feels warm to the touch" may or may not have a fever
    - A temperature greater than 101o rectally is a fever.
DON'T BE AFRAID OF FEVER (FEVER PHOBIA)
  • Any medications (name and dose), including non-prescription, over-the-counter treatments
  • A recent weight (or close approximation)
  • The telephone number of a pharmacy that is OPEN - please telephone the pharmacy beforehand to verify that they are not closed (especially late nights and weekends).

Be Ready
Please try to keep the telephone lines open. When we call you back, please have your answering machine turned off. If we get an answering machine, we will assume that you are not home, and then you will end up calling us back again. Also, if your child is crying when we call you back, please remember to give him/her to someone else to hold, or lay him/her down in another room so that you are able to hear us and we can hear you.

Pitfalls
If you don't receive a telephone call from us within a reasonable amount of time
(usually one hour) please call us back!

Did You

  • use a good quality telephone? (not a cellular or cordless phone!)
  • speak too softly into the telephone?
  • leave a telephone number where you can be reached?
